I got a few more things out of storage the other day and after doing so realised that with a bit of pushing and shoving I could get at my electric bike. I originally thought that it would be trapped until I eventually completely cleared the storage at the end of my house build, but after taking out the stuff that I’d come for and a few extra minutes of effort, I did manage to extract it.
Unsurprisingly, its tyres were flat but after loading up the other stuff, I pushed my bike out and pumped up its tyres with the foot pump that I always keep in the back of my car. I then had to leave it tucked away in a hideaway outside the storage until I could get back to ride it home, which was yesterday evening after Wednesday’s usual ‘apero’ at my place.
I’ve been keeping its battery topped up in my caravan for the past few months and I took it with me together with a rag to give my bike a dust down before enjoying quite an exhilarating ride back to Labattut. The last section of road was downhill and it was great to be able to cool off a bit, accelerating without pedalling through the now cooling evening air as the temperature had been up to 33 degrees Celsius during the afternoon and early evening.
This morning while it was still cool, I went for my first Labattut bike ride.
Although the route that I took, heading towards Fleurac, is relatively flat I decided not to overdo it, thinking more about my aging joints and muscles that haven’t been used to this sort of activity for many months. So I was only out for half an hour or so, but it was great fun and really enjoyable. It was also a terrific way to take advantage of the amazing weather that we’re currently experiencing, so I think that I’ll start my days in exactly the same way, maybe extending the time and distance that I cover, while it persists over the coming days, or weeks even 😉
