Yes folks, a young engineer did actually turn up from Enedis today and connect me (well, my ‘coffre de chantier’ actually) to the electrical grid. So tonight as I type this the lights in my caravan are burning brightly, my kettle is taking half the time that it was to boil and my microwave is back to working at full power, all because there’s only a 10 metre cable between my caravan and the supply instead of one 150 metres in length.
But best of all given the time of year, the electric convector heater that I fitted in the caravan way back when I acquired it last summer is chucking out heat at the same setting at which it was previously just giving out a tiddly bit of warmth plus I’ll be able to leave it on all night, 24 hours a day if I want, without bothering that it might keep tripping my kind neighbour’s ‘disjoncteur’ because the total current drain in her house is too high.
So taken all round, relative bliss. And to celebrate, I’ve just ordered an electric air fryer. I can’t wait to get to use it even if there is a danger of piling on the weight if I’m not careful during the long, cold winter months. I’ll worry about that later, when I’ve had the chance to make a few chips (frites to my European friends and neighbours) and try a few recipes out 😉
